About

A native Charlottean, graduate of Newell, Cochrane, Garinger, and NC State.   Retired after 33 years in broadcasting operations and 15 years in nonprofit. Still a writer, I like to work in my yard and hang with my dog.

Hanging with my dog.

Running, hiking, volleyball, and swimming were my major exercise activities until major surgery put me out of commission for 5 months when I was 35.  I was a member of the YMCA and a friend suggested I use weight workouts to help me get back in shape more quickly. I worked with a trainer for several months in addition to running to get started, and I continue to work with a trainer occasionally to help me target certain areas or keep challenging myself.

My aging knees and hips discourage me from running these days.  Working out helps me focus, find my Zen, think productively.  I solve a lot of issues rocking out in my head to 70’s and soul music on Spotify as  I move through my routine.  I am mostly retired now, but I still love to get an early start to the day with a workout.  Nothing beats that “ I’ve worked out/what a good girl am I feeling” to  prepare you for whatever the day holds including meditating on what is really important in life.
